Sound & Picture Studios
Clutch History
Clutch was founded in 2005 by Brian Liston. Needing a better space to serve his clients, Liston moved into the former Smart Studios after Butch Vig (Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Garbage) sold the studio and moved to California. After several fruitful years of operating out of that historic building, the building was simply too small for modern production.
In January 2020, Clutch moved the operation to the new enormous space at 329 Coyier Lane, Madison Wisconsin. Having a load-in door, parking lot, and more studio space has been awesome since we moved in. Check our Facebook page to see updates.
It was great being in such an historic place all of those years. We did some great recordings there and had some good parties as well. But we are making better recordings now, and the parties are still happening.

When Biff isn’t globe-trotting with Robert Fripp and King Crimson, he runs his game from CLUTCH.
Max was born in a recording studio, with his father owning one and his mother being a professional musician. Max keeps the place running day to day.
Anton is our all-around nerd keeping our tech happy. He likes banging on drums when he’s not making the internet work. And we don’t mean the internet at the office. THE ENTIRE INTERNET.
Joey Banks is our resident drummer. He was the understudy of Clyde Stubblefield (James Brown) and works with Madison’s youth because he is such a nice guy.
Meghan Rose is a mix engineer and composer. She can play any instrument and score.
